Moxibustion is a traditional treatment older than Acupuncture itself. It involves the burning of a herb Artemesia Vulgaris over the acu point either in stick form or wrapped around the head of the needle. This emits a gentle warmth that penetrates the skin warming the painful area and also clears any blockages in energy that are present. The warming effect is very pleasant where pain is chronic and the joint responds well to the application of warmth. Depending on how long the moxa is used, will have an effect on the depth of the warmth felt, it is capable of penetrating to quite a deep level, which most clients find pleasant, soothing and relaxing. The treatment is also a useful alternative to insertion of needles, and is particularly well suited to the elderly or very young. The action of the herb has a powerful balancing effect on women and female conditions, including all problems associated with menstruation. In most conventional treatments the harmonising of the inner energy is ignored. In Chinese medicine this is one of the most important factors in treatment as the whole person is important not just their symptoms, often with TRADITIONAL acupuncture symptoms are cured permanently. Symptomatic Acupuncture is generally not as effective. |
